TDB-DST Supports Development of India's First 240-Volt Electric Motorcycle Platform with Raptee Energy
India's first 240-volt electric motorcycle by Raptee Energy gets TDB-DST support, boosting indigenous EV tech, faster charging & Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

The Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), has extended crucial support for the development and commercialization of India's first 240-volt electric motorcycle platform. The groundbreaking project is being executed by Raptee Energy Pvt. Ltd., Chennai, marking a significant leap in the nation's two-wheeler EV technology landscape.
Unlike conventional electric bikes, this innovative platform operates on a 240-volt DC architecture, a technology already proven in electric cars. The higher voltage enables faster charging, improved efficiency, and better compatibility with India's growing public charging infrastructure.
To complement the system, the project features an ARAI-certified battery pack developed in-house by Raptee Energy's DSIR-recognized R&D unit. With over six years of dedicated research, the company has built capabilities in electronics, mechanical systems, embedded software, and validation testing, ensuring robust indigenous value addition.
The motorcycle also integrates smart connectivity features like remote diagnostics, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and adopts sustainable manufacturing practices with zero waste and no external emissions. This aligns with the Government's vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and directly supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 13 - Climate Action).
Commenting on the initiative, Sh. Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB, said:
"High-voltage technology in electric two-wheelers opens new possibilities for faster adoption of EVs intended for India's huge market. By supporting this project, TDB seeks to accelerate domestic innovation, strengthen local R&D capacity, and ensure sustainable mobility solutions are developed within the country."
On behalf of the company, Sh. Dinesh Arjun, CEO, Raptee Energy Pvt. Ltd., stated:
"TDB's support validates our long-term R&D efforts and enables us to scale our high-voltage motorcycle platform. This is a major step towards creating indigenous, future-ready mobility solutions while contributing to India's leadership in the global EV transition."
This landmark project underscores India's commitment to innovation, sustainability, and indigenous EV technologies, setting a new benchmark for the future of electric mobility in two-wheelers.
