ICGEB Marks First Anniversary of BioE3 Policy; Strengthens Institute-Industry Collaboration for Climate-Resilient Agriculture and Clean Energy
New Delhi, 06 Sep 2025 - The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), New Delhi, hosted BioE3@1 today to commemorate the first anniversary of the BioE3 Policy, the Government of India's flagship initiative integrating Biotechnology with Economy, Environment and Employment. The event focused on accelerating the lab-to-market transition of innovations in climate-resilient agriculture and clean energy.
Organised under the theme "Institute-Industry Interaction for Climate Resilient Agriculture and Clean Energy," BioE3@1 brought together leading national research institutions - including NABI (Mohali), NIPGR (New Delhi), NIAB (Hyderabad), IPFT (Gurugram) and RCB (Faridabad) - alongside industry representatives from Balram Chinni Mills, Prasad Seeds, Nuziveedu Seeds, Bioseeds, Mankind Agro and Insecticides India Ltd.
The programme comprised two focused sessions. In the first, institute directors presented breakthrough technologies and ongoing research aimed at enhancing climate resilience in agriculture and advancing sustainable energy solutions. Presentations highlighted institutional strengths and practical innovations that can be scaled for commercial use.
The second session featured an industry panel moderated by Dr. Ramesh V. Sonti, Director, ICGEB New Delhi. Panelists - including Shri Praveen Gupta, Shri Arvind Kumar, Dr. Seetharam Annadana, Dr. Ajay Kumar, Dr. Anupam Acharya, and Shri Shekhar Bisht - discussed ways to deepen industry–academia linkages under the BioE3 framework and shared strategies for enabling successful lab-to-market transitions.
An accompanying exhibition showcased the participating institutes' technological innovations in agri-biotech, sustainable energy, animal health and pesticide formulation, enabling industry stakeholders to assess applied potential and collaboration opportunities.
Approved by the Union Cabinet in 2024, the BioE3 Policy aims to elevate India's bioeconomy while supporting the country's commitment to Net Zero carbon emissions by 2070. By anchoring biotechnology in environmental conservation, economic development and employment generation, BioE3 seeks to foster an innovation ecosystem that is sustainable, inclusive and globally competitive.
The BioE3@1 event reinforced the shared commitment of research institutes and industry to translate scientific advances into market-ready solutions that address national and global sustainability challenges.
